What to Expect
Bellingham's Life Chiropractic's treatments follow the inherent laws of nature rather than abuse the inherent laws of nature. Our bodies must abide by these laws because if they don't then a health crisis magically appears. Just have a look at the individuals who have ignored these precious guidelines. They lose their ability to do the normal activities which are taken for granted and also deteriorate and age more quickly than they should.
Laying the foundation
Chiropractic care is like building a house - certain things have to happen in a particular order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .
Phase 1: Relief Care
If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. We will do whatever we can to help your body rid itself of its pain. The "health", or "unhealth" of your joints and tough connective tissues govern your body's ability to respond to specific adjustments, treatments, and connective tissue training. The pain you are experiencing is a direct result of your body's response to what the brain understands to be a "crisis."
Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care
Should you choose to participate in an individualized corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are encouraged to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent further injury. As each person is an individual, healing times are variable and can depend on your specific physical condition. Muscles, because they are active red tissue with a good blood supply, will respond more quickly than passive white ligaments and cartilage which have a poor blood supply. That is why sprained ankle ligaments will take 18 months to heal in ither an unhealthy or healthy manner. It's what is done for those ligaments during active healing which is vitally important.
Phase 3: Wellness Care
Once your body has healed to its particular capability, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future. Usually, this only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor based on your injury history, lifestyle, activity goals, and degree of desired physical health.
